Track Trio to Move On After Hartnell

Panthers Joselito Ruiz (San Benito HS) and  Beatriz Duarte and Lizette Garcia signed their National Letter of Intents to continue their careers. Jose has chosen to continue his career at NAIA Missouri Valley College under former CA JC coach David Dominguez. Jose enjoyed his most successful season while a Panther this spring. He posted lifetime bests for the 3k steeplechase and 5000 meters along the way to earning a State B mark in the steeple and placing 6th at the Norcal Championship. His points were instrumental in securing a 2nd place team trophy. Jose is excited to join a MoVal team that placed 10th at the NAIA national cross country championship last fall.

Lizzy finished her Hartnell career a year ago but decided to complete her degree requirements and allowed for the opportunity to continue her career at NCAA D2 University of Hawaii Hilo. Lizzy has proven herself as an All Norcal cross country runner and top 30 in the state. She also takes a track 5000m meter best of 19:25 to the Big Island. Lizzy and Beatriz were HS teammates before Hartnell at Watsonville High School. Lizzy helped Beatriz get through her first year in college and inspired her to achieve her own success as well. Beatriz did just that finishing 2nd at conference in cross country and 9th to earn All Norcal. This fall the women's team won the Coast Conference title and palced third in Northern California. This spring she ran bests from 800 thru 10k showing dramatic improvement in all areas. She was the conference 10,000 meter runner-up and has put her name on the top 20 all-time lists for 5000 and 10,000 meters.
