Duo to NAIA Runner-Up St. Francis

Duo to NAIA Runner-Up St. Francis

Panthers Andrew Martinez (Soledad HS) and Angel Meijia, Jr.(Santa Cruz HS) will stay together and take their talents to Joliet, IL and University of Saint Francis. Both came to Hartnell as virtual unknowns but leave having been a part of two of the bests years the men's team had in cross country and track and field. Angel overcame numerous obstacles during his time here but enjoyed placing 15th (7th man!) at Norcals as a freshman to help the team to a 2nd place finish. and scoring in the Norcal 10k in 32:36. As a sophomore he worked his way back into the top 7 and was a part of the historic Norcal winning team. This past track he added a 4:05 1500 to his PR's of 15:35, 9:09, and 32:36. A two time all conference runner in cross country, Angel also ran in both 5k and 10k track finals each year. Andrew chiseled himself into one of the best runners in the region over his two years following the path of consistent training. He never broke 4:30 or 10:00 in high school but leaves with bests of 4:00, 8:56, 15:14 and 32:32 the later giving him a conference title on his home track. Andrew took on a challenge presented to him with the 3k steeple which he was a double conference champion, double region point scorer, and a state finalist this spring. In cross country Andrew improved from all conference and alternate to all region and 4th man on our regional champion team. A true bulldog he's yet to find his best event but has learned to excel across the board. Both guys join a USF program that was NAIA national runner up in cross country. These two could help USF get the team to the top of the podium.
