Student-Athlete Spotlight – Edgar Bonilla

On November 14, 2016 top runner Edgar Bonilla, signed his National Letter of Intent for San Jose State University, where he was offered a major scholarship. Bonilla, came to the United States at the age of seven and lives in King City. In high school, he was one of the most accomplished runners. He was the MTAL individual champion during his junior year. In his senior year, he earned CIF All-State honors for consecutive top 10 finishes. He decided to come to Hartnell because he “didn’t feel ready” to go to a four year institution. “I’m enjoying my classes and done many things I didn't think I would do. I’m having a great experience,” Edgar points out. During Edgar’s Freshman year at Hartnell, he earned, 1st Place Northern California Pre-Preview Meet at Toro Park, 4th Place at Fresno Invitational, 4th Place at Lou Vasquez Invitational, 2nd Place at Northern California Preview Meet, and 6th Place at Mt. SAC Invitational. This year he also earned, 1st Place Coast Conference Championship, 6th Place Northern California Championship at Toro Park and 9th Place CCCAA at State Championship. He also earned the 2015 AllConference, 2015 All-Region and 2015 All-American titles. Now in his Sophomore year, Edgar has fiercely improved his record by earning 4th Place NorCal Preview Meet, 1st Place at Fresno Invitational, 1st Place at Lou Vasquez Invitational, 1st Place Tie at Hartnell College Invitational, 1st Place at Mt. SAC Invitational, 1st Place Coast Conference Championship and 1st Place Tie Northern California Championship. He also earned the 2016 AllConference and 2016 All-Region titles so far. Bonilla currently commutes from King City to Hartnell’s Main Campus in Salinas. His major is Computer Science and wants to be a computer programmer. “In the future, I am interested in living and working in Silicon Valley, where the best technology is created,” he shared.
