A Double Win for Volleyball

On Wednesday October 19, 2016 the Hartnell College Women's volleyball faced local rival Monterey Peninsula College and defeated them with a score of 25-21, 25- 23, 25-15. Lady Panther Cynthia Huerta led the team with 10 digs and 7 kills. Freshman Janessa Figueroa, middle blocker, stepped in to relieve Ruby Perez and scored 5 kills and 3 blocks. Sophomore Ruby Perez stepped out due to a knee injury. In addition to the game play, the Lady Panthers used their game to advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness. The team wore uniforms with pink and encouraged their audience to wear pink as well. On Friday October 21, 2016 the Lady Panthers visited Solano College and earned another win for the week. Hartnell defeated Solano by a score of 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 27-25. Lady Panther Cynthia Huerta, outside hitter, led the team with 8 kills and 12 digs. Marlene Morales followed Huerta with 5 kills and 2 blocks. This week concluded the first round of League play, the Lady Panthers ended with a record of 4-2. With the addition of win last week, they moved up in rank to 19th place in the CCCAAWVB rankings. They are now 10th place in the Northern California rankings
