SALINAS, Calif. — Hartnell College dropped the opener of its Opening Day doubleheader, falling 12–2 to Lassen College on Friday.
Lassen struck early with two runs in the second inning before Hartnell answered in the third. Ethan Chun drove in a run and Ayden Ramirez added an RBI to briefly tie the game at 2–2. From there, Lassen pulled away, scoring in four separate innings, including a five-run eighth to put the game out of reach.
Hartnell finished with six hits on the day. Ramirez went 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Chun and Emmet Desmond also recorded hits. Hayden Orrill reached base twice, going 1-for-2 with a walk.
On the mound, George Jewell took the loss after allowing five runs over 4.1 innings. Sam Sellars worked 2.2 innings of relief, and Brycee Blair added an inning out of the bullpen. Lassen totaled 12 runs on 12 hits.
Hartnell committed one error defensively and left several runners on base. The loss set the stage for a gritty bounce-back win by the Panthers in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
