Boys Basketball Summer Camp was a Blast!
In June 13-17th Hartnell College Men’s Basketball team hosted their annual boys summer camp. During this week camp there were around 40 boys from ages 5 to 14 years old. They learned basic basketball skills and techniques, such as; dribbling, passing, defense play and rules of the game.
In addition to the Men’s Basketball Head Coach Andrew Vasher and his Coach Assistant Steven Terry, there were about eight volunteers helping to run the camp. Half of the volunteers were students at our local high schools and the other half were Hartnell student-athletes.
“We do this type of camps to help out and give back to our community”, Head Coach Vasher stated. Vasher further explained that, aside from organizing the boys basketball summer camp in Hartnell, he also collaborates with the city of Salinas to offer free basketball summer camps.
“We are happy to do this for the community, to expose these boys from a young age to structured sports in a safe environment”, Assistant Coach Steven Terry commented. “At the end of the day we want to teach these kids to be good people in and out of the court”, added Terry. Hartnell College Athletics department will continue to host these camps for years to come.
