Competing primarily against four year universities at the West Coast Relays hosted by Fresno State, the Hartnell College track & field teams were able to show some impressive improvements to finish off the spring break week. With temperatures well above 80 degrees most of the day it favored the sprints and field events more than the distance races which will wait until better weather at the Mike Fanelli Classic in San Francisco.
In the men's 400mH, sophomore Adrian Manriquez lowered his lifetime best to 54.73. That time is third fastest in the region and tops in the Coast Conference by over three seconds. Sophomore Corbin Osborn had a lifetime best in the triple jump (13.53m) that improved on his State "B" mark. Freshman Aiden Ishimaru continued to improve in the javelin (46.26m), just shy of the State "B' in the event. He also had his second best hammer mark of the season (48.91m). Erik Luna Bedolla handled the morning heat the best in the 5000 meters, completing his first race at the distance in 15:50.23. Freshman Alex Acevedo had a season best in the 800 meters at 1:59.41. Acevedo, Manriquez, along with Ulises Hernandez-Aguilar and Diego Avila-Garcia ran 3:25.77. Sophomore Gianni Ponce cleared 1.80m in the high jump.
The Panthers will split squads the weekend of April 3-4 with the distance runners traveling to San Francisco State University for the Mike Fanelli Classic. A majority of the team will compete at the Delta Legacy Meet hosted by San Joaquin Delta College on their newly surfaced track. Adrian Manriquez, Nathaniel Aceves-Aguilar, and Joshua Na will represent Hartnell College at the prestigious Stanford Invitational.
