Men's T & F: Capture 41st Conference Championship
Despite a surprising challenge from Chabot College, the Hartnell College men’s track & field team prevailed over two days of tough competition to win its forty-first Coast Conference Track & Field Championship and defend their team title from last year.
Despite a surprising challenge from Chabot College, the Hartnell College men's track & field team prevailed over two days of tough competition to win its forty-first Coast Conference Track & Field Championship and defend their team title from last year. The men's team tallied 239 points to second place Chabot College at 192 points. The Panther men only won seven events but had a scorer in every event except in the 100 and 200 meters.
Sophomore Adrian Manriquez won both the 400 meter open (48.74) and 400mIH (55.52) with the flat race being a mild upset over host school Monterey's Keon Ealey. Julian Vargas repeated his 5000 meter (15:52.71) and 10,000 meters (32:43.31) from two years ago. Sophomore Ivan Martinez-Galindo was a first time winner of the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:04.49). Freshmen Alex Acevedo and Joshua Na picked up wins in the 800 meters with Acevedo first in 1:58.71 and Na on top in the hammer with a personal best 48.86m throw. Runner-up finishes included Giancarlo Mendo in the 1500 meters, Erik Luna Bedolla over 5000 meters, Gabriel Clemente Altamirano in the 10,000 meters, and Nathaniel Aceves-Aguilar in the javelin. Bronze medal finishers were Aiden Ishimaru (hammer and javelin), Corbin Osborn (triple jump), Aceves-Aguilar (long jump), freshman Giovanni Ochoa (10,000m), and Martinez-Galindo (5000m).
The Panthers will compete next at the two day Northern California Championship to be held May 1-2 at Santa Rosa Junior College.
