The Hartnell College Panthers split a competitive doubleheader against Sacramento City College, opening the season weekend strong with a 7–3 win in game one before falling 2–1 in the finale.
Game One: Panthers 7, Sacramento City 3
Sacramento City College struck first, jumping out to a 2–0 lead in the opening inning. The Panthers responded quickly in the second, sparked by Vianna Franco, who delivered a clutch two-run single to score Malaya Carrillo and Aaliyah Cordova, tying the game.
Hartnell continued to build momentum as Mikayla Sanchez drove in Gabriela Perez with a double, followed by an RBI from Hannah Sanchez to bring home Franco. Sacramento City added a run in the third, but the Panthers stayed in control.
Hartnell put the game away in the seventh inning, adding three more runs highlighted by Jessalyn Casillas, who drove in Hannah Sanchez and Kalea De Leon. In the circle, Mikayla Sanchez went the distance, turning in another strong performance to earn the win and secure the Panthers' first victory of the doubleheader.
Game Two: Sacramento City 2, Panthers 1
The second game remained a duel. Sacramento City took a 2–0 lead in the third inning and held the Panthers at bay until a late Hartnell rally.
In the fifth, Hannah Sanchez led off with a double, and Kalea De Leon followed with an RBI double to cut the deficit to one. Despite continued pressure and a determined late push, the Panthers were unable to complete the comeback.
Kalea De Leon led the Panthers offensively in the nightcap, finishing with three doubles on the day.
Hartnell College closes the season-opening weekend with a 3–1 record and will look to carry that momentum forward as the Panthers prepare to face Yuba City College next.
