Panthers Sweep No. 6 Yuba in Road Doubleheader
The Hartnell Panthers traveled to face ranked No. 6 Yuba College and came away with an impressive doubleheader sweep, taking Game 1 by a score of 5–1 and run-ruling the 49ers 10–1 in five innings in Game 2.
Game 1: Hartnell 5, Yuba 1
Yuba struck first in the opening inning with a run, holding a 1–0 lead through five innings. The Panthers broke through in the sixth inning, sparked by a triple from Kalea De Leon. Michelle Wallace tied the game scoring Kalea De Leon.
Hartnell's offense came alive in the seventh inning with a two-out rally. Gabriela Perez reached base, and Mikayla Sanchez doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Hannah Sanchez delivered in the clutch with a two-run double to score Gabriela Perez and Mikayla Sanchez. Kalea De Leon followed with a single to move Hannah Sanchez into scoring position, and Jessalyn Casillas sealed the victory with a two-run RBI triple, bringing home Hannah Sanchez and Kalea De Leon.
Mikayla Sanchez earned the win in the circle, striking out an impressive 15 batters.
Game 2: Hartnell 10, Yuba 1 (5 innings)
The Panthers carried their momentum into Game 2, scoring five runs in the first inning. Hannah Sanchez led off with a triple, followed by an RBI double from Kalea De Leon. Angelina Navarro continued the rally, scoring De Leon, while Johana Alonzo added a two-run double to bring in Jessalyn Casillas and Navarro. Aaliyah Cordova capped the inning with an RBI sacrifice fly, scoring Samantha Merillena. Yuba responded with one run in the bottom of the inning.
Hartnell added to its lead in the second inning when Casillas hit an RBI double to score De Leon. In the fourth inning, Gianna Calderon doubled and later scored along with De Leon on another double from Casillas. Katrina Longoria followed with a fielder's choice to score Casillas. The Panthers closed out the game in the fifth inning as Malaya Carrillo scored Johana Alonzo following her leadoff double.
Malaya Carrillo picked up the win in the circle as Hartnell secured the run-rule victory.
The Panthers return home for their home-opening doubleheader on Friday, February 6, against Siskiyous College, with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
