Welcome Our New Women’s Basketball Coach Destiny Grijalva
It is our pleasure to welcome Destiny Grijalva as our new Women’s Basketball coach. Destinywas born and raised in Salinas, California. Thanks to Grijalva’s Grandmother, Juanda she grew up with a love for basketball. Juanda had Destiny and her cousins play basketball at a young age. Her grandmother volunteered her time to coach them through elementary and middle school. “ I learned to love the game just as much as she did, and I thrived at making her and my family proud. She had a great impact on the community and players she worked with. She inspired me to do the same and get where I am today.” Coach Grijalva expressed.
Destiny Grijalva is a proud Hartnell Alumni, sheattended Hartnell College in 2001 - 2006 to earn her Associates Degree in: Liberal Arts. She competed in the Hartnell College Women’s Basketball and Track & Field. She earned MVP, All League Player and Athlete of the year in 2001, playing her first season of basketball. In 2002 she appeared as Team Captain, MVP. Then in 2005 she competed in Track & Field. She went to State in Pole Vault and Javelin. Destiny earned 1st place in Javelin at the Coast Conference Championships and 2nd in Pole Vault. She also ended the season earning Most Valuable Jumper and Most Valuable Field Athlete. Grijalva then earned the Consumnes River All Tourney Award and the Hartnell Classic All Tourney Award. Thereafter,Destiny transferred to California State University Monterey Bay and earned a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology with a Minor on Sports Management. She is now married to her husband David and they have two beautiful children; Cyenna who is 10 and Gavin who is 7.
“Hartnell has always been in my heart. Now I have an amazing opportunity to hold the position I’ve dreamed of; as Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball team.” New coach Grijalva stated. “I look forward to having a successful season and watching the athletes grow as individuals and players. My vision is to have a solid basketball program where ladies come through Hartnell gaining the knowledge and strength through proper training to compete at their best, physically and academically. I will strive to do my best. This team is my priority.” indicated, new Hartnell College Women’s Basketball head coach Destiny Grijalva.
