Black and Emerson All-American
First year Hartnell College women's track & field team members Dominayah Black and Jenna Emerson made the most of their 3C2A State Track & Field Championship experience with both earning All-American honors. Black posed a personal best 10.87m jump that put her in second in the triple jump for most of the competition. It would hold for fourth and the end of the sixth round giving Black a storybook end to her first season. The North Salinas High School graduate played basketball for Hartnell College before coming out for track & field in mid-February. She did not start triple jumping until later in the season and quickly picked up the event. She is now an All-American as a result of her fourth place and will be one of the top returners in 2026. Black also moves to fourteenth best in Hartnell College history.
Freshman Jenna Emerson competed in both the 100m hurdle and 400mLH, placing in the top eight in both events. Emerson finished seventh in the 100mH in a time of 15.23. She returned an hour later to the track for the 400mLH and managed a personal best under windy conditions in 64.52. Running much of the race in sixth and seventh place, Emerson's final three hurdles pushed her into the top four and All-American honors. Her time took 0.02 off her personal best and put her into a tie for seventh best all-time in Hartnell history with Sheena Ringrose.
Sophomore Taylan Flower competed in her first 3C2A State Championship and made the triple jump final with a mark of 10.46m. She would be bumped out of the medals on the sixth round jump by Giselle Rodriguez of Butte College but still place ninth in the state.
